October is my favorite month of the year for fairs and festivals in New Orleans. The weather is usually stellar and there is fun around every corner. This month, there are back to back events to keep us all outdoors, fed well and having fun. Best of all, they are all family friendly events, so bring the kids and your mama 'n em and get out and have fun!
Like music? You can't miss the Gretna Heritage Festival this weekend! Jam packed with live music on multiple stages, this 3 day festival covers over 15 blocks in the heart of Gretna. From local favorites like the Yat Pack and Cowboy Mouth, to national acts Grand Funk Railroad, Lynyrd Skynrd and Sara Evans, there's something for everyone whether your taste runs from jazz and soul or class rock to country.
There is also an Italian Village, German Beer Garden, carnival rides and games and loads of local artists and craftsmen selling their wares. Perfect place to start some early Christmas shopping while supporting your local businesses.
Like food? Then you'll be in heaven over the next few weeks with the Bridge City Gumbo Festival in Avondale (10/14-10/16), the St. Cletus Oyster Festival in Gretna (10/14-10/16), the Rockin' Cajun Festival in Avondale (10/21) and the Christ the King Festival on October 28, 29 and 30th.
Like architecture? Then don't miss the annual Algiers Point Home Tour on October 16th in Algiers Point. Take a peek inside of 6 amazing homes, 2 churches and one school that all reflect the history of this amazing West Bank neighborhood.
Hit one or hit them all and October will be your favorite month too!
