New Orleans Real Estate News: West Bank 2007 Halloween Events

West Bank 2007 Halloween Events

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!  Before all of the ghost and goblins hit the streets for Halloween this week, please remember a few safety tips:

  • All children should be accompanied by an adult
  • Remind all trick or treaters of the rules for crossing streets - look both ways.
  • Only trick or treat at homes that have outside lights on.
  • Don't forget your flashlight!
  • Costumes should be short enough for a child to walk in.  If they are too long, they can be trip hazard.
  • Props such as scythes, pitchforks, etc. should have rounded edges to avoid injury.
  • Masks should have large enough eye holes for children to see clearly through - face paint is a terrific alternative to a mask.
  • Do not leave candles burning unattended in your jack-o-lantern.
  • Remind the kids not to eat any candy until it is inspected and OK'd by an adult.

I dropped by hoping you had some candy(lol). Thank you for wishing me well on my first localism postlet. Take care and enjoy the trick-or-treaters.

Lisa, It's nice they have many things for the children on Halloween.  It saves the parents the door to door and most of that candy gets thrown out anyway.  Have fun, I'm sure you'll be doing something fun on Halloween!

Dionne, thanks!  Localism posts can be very fun - and they are easy to write since it is our own area we are covering.  Good luck with your future posts!

Carole, the "Trunk or Treat" at the schools and churches are great.  Kids are contained to one place, but still get to trick or treat with their friends without having to cross streets and walk block after block.  You throw away candy?  Horrors... :)

Happy Halloween!!!

In the small town where I live kids can take their candy to the local hospital and have it go through the x-ray machine to make sure it's safe. Can you believe that? It's crazy that we have to worry about these things, but we do.

Stephanie, I know that the hospitals here used to offer this service years ago, but we have such a shortage of health care now that it's no longer available.  I'm glad that my youngest is now "too big" to go trick or treating and I don't personally have those worries any longer.  Of course, there are still the worries about everyone else's children - it's a mom thing, right?

You know Lisa I bet it was a one time thing here (years ago) because I just called our hospital and they haven't heard of this.

My youngest are 9, so I am thinking this is one of their last trick or treating years too. (pheew)

:)

Stephanie:  9!!  You don't look old enough to have kids that age - must be good genes :)

LIsa, I'm guessing that Halloween in New Orleans must be a lot of fun especially with all the VooDoo themes in the city -- and people can use their Mardi Gras costumes a second time during the year!

Brian, now how did you know that we sometimes recyle our costumes :)
