Every now and again, it's nice to just get away for a few days - away from the city, the cars, the hustle and bustle that makes up our every day lives. This past weekend we did just that. Packed up the car, kids, canoe, 4 wheeler, food and friends and drove over to Flint Creek in Wiggins, Mississippi.
The less than 2 hour drive makes it perfect a quick weekend getaway destination and the weather cooperated and was spectacular. Warm, sunny days and cool, star filled evenings were the recipe for relaxation (well, after I turned off my phone it was relaxing)!
Flint Creek is a state park that offers options for every type of camper - primitive camping, camp sites, RV hookups and cabin rentals for folks like me who like the outdoors but have no desire to sleep in it. Rates are extremely reasonable - we rented a 2 bedroom cabin that sleeps 6-8 people for a little over $100 per night. By the time we divided the cost between 6 adults and 2 kids, it turned out to be a very inexpensive way to spend the weekend. With a refrigerator for food storage and indoor plumbing it was about as primitive as my camping experience will get!
If you are looking for a family friendly weekend getaway that's not too far from the West Bank, I would highly recommend Flint Creek. You can check out cabin and campsite placements online and start planning your own weekend retreat right now.

Nice! What a great view out the fireplace wall of windows. I would love to sit on that porch on a warm evening. I'm glad you had a nice break.
That looks peaceful. The water looks spectacular. Wish I was there! KM
Lisa, this sounds like fun. Initially, I was thinking... camping.. yuck. But the cabin looks very nice, and like you, I think I could do that. Great photos!
Lisa, what an awesome get away. Glad you took some time off. Great opportunity.
Hi Lisa, that's my kind of camping -- inside, fireplace (for the cool night), beds and bathroom!!! Not to mention great views and I love that covered porch -- can sit out there and enjoy that beautiful view! :)
Lisa - Looks like a great place to relax and spend some family time.
Lisa, It looks like a lovely place to get away! I would be sitting on the porch with a book enjoying the beautiful views--and just relaxing!
Elaine, the first night we were there all we did was light a candle, sit on the porch and just soak it all in. So serene, especially at night.
Kristin, I tried to capture the way the sun sparkled on the water, but did NOT to it justice!
Susan, I'm not a real "outdoors" kind of girl, so I was thrilled with a cabin...and a bed... :)
Missy, it's so hard to unwind, isn't it? But if you can't do it there, you can't do it anywhere.
Judi, it was glorious - I'd love to go back when it's just a tad bit cooler.
Al, it was - right up until they took me 4 wheeling and I was hanging on to the back of a 13 year old who said "Trust me, Mom"
Carole, would you believe that I never even opened my book? I was content just sitting back, talking and enjoying the views!
Very cool thing to do. Nice photographs. :-)

Wow! How beautiful! Lisa, that looked like so much fun for all of you.
M, thank you - now that's a compliment coming from you :)
C, THANK YOU!
Kris, we had a great time and what I like the best is that if you want to just veg out and do nothing you can...if you want to be active, there are plenty of opportunities. Best of both worlds.
Hi Lisa,
WOW! I had no idea. I'm here is south Mississippi now. My boyfriend and I came down last week and hardly found a hotel because if the cruising the coast that was taking place. My uncle lives in Wiggins, it is less than an hour from here. What a great alternative. That would have been great..(bathroom and all lol) I do require that even in a camping trip.
I'm staying with my parents for 2 weeks but I'm going to e-mail this to my b/friend so when he comes here to pick me up on Friday we can consider this place instead of a casino hotel room. I'm so excited.
Great pictures by the way!
Thanks and take care.
Tiffany
Tiffany, if you get there be sure to take some pics to share with all of us. I'd love to see someone else's perspective on the same place!
Lisa - this looks so fantastic - we all need a break once in a while and this place looks awesome...love your photos - the cabin the pumpkins! :-)
This sounds great! Indoor plumbing is a MUST HAVE for me too, lol. Great pics Lisa :)
Liz, the kids had a great time carving pumpkins out by the campfire...very rustic, very relaxing.
Kara, LOL! After the last trip, where I had to walk down the road to get to any plumbing at all, I was in heaven this time :)
Lisa, looks so peaceful! Those are some great shots. Seems like a great place to get away from it all.
Lisa-This really sounds like fun and the pictures of the lake are beautiful. Have fun and think of all of us having to work. LOL
